In this course we will describe the equipment and software characteristics to consider when buying a new home computer. There will be a handout covering specifications of typical laptop and all-in-one computers, along with a worksheet that each student will fill out covering specifications for the computer that best fit their needs Class discussions on the use of online resources for computer shopping should also prove beneficial.

We will discuss how to approach the choice of whether to purchase a new tablet (touchscreen) computer (e.g., iPad, Nook, Kindle) vs. a laptop computer. You will also be introduced to the new Windows 8 computers that are just now coming on the market.


PREREQUISITES

Students should have completed at least one Computer College Prep School (0-Level) course, or have equivalent experience. Some knowledge of computers is necessary so that computer hardware descriptions will have some meaning for you.
